Umpire Courses

A range of umpiring courses are available through the Gloucestershire Association of Cricket Officials (GACO)

In 2019 there will be Introductory, Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses in Gloucestershire.

Introductory Courses 2020

“An Introduction to Cricket Umpiring,” it aimed at supporting players, coaches, parents who get asked to help out and anyone who just wants to know more about the key role umpires play in our great summer game.

The 3 hour session covers the important (and contentious) laws, the role of umpires and captains in maintaining the spirit of the game, and the duty of care to all players, but especially those under 18.

GACUS is running a series of courses in 2020:

Stage 1 – Sunday 9th February at Bristol County Ground – 09:00-17:30

Stage 2 – Sunday 16th February at Bristol County Ground – 09:00-17:30

Stage 1 – Sunday 1st March at Hatherley & Reddings – 09:00-17:30

Stage 2 – Sunday 8th March at Hatherley & Reddings – 09:00-17:30

Stage 1 – Sunday 17th May – TBC (Cheltenham area) – 09:00-17:30

Stage 2 – Sunday 24th May – TBC (Cheltenham area) – 09:00-17:30

The cost of the course is £10**, including MCC Law Book and ECBACO certificate of attendance. Both the Gloucestershire County Cricket League and Cotswold District Cricket Association will pay this cost for 2 people for each team in their leagues.

**Young persons course is £5.

Stage 1 & 2 Courses 2019

The next Stage One (Club Umpire) course will be held at the Cheltenham Civil Service CC on June 2, 2019 from 9.30am-5.30pm. The course will provide an overview of the basic Laws of the game and introduce the principles of field craft and match management. The qualification will give candidates the tools to umpire matches at a basic recreational level where no independent umpires are appointed.

The course costs £20 or you can pay £30 to attend both the Level 1 and Level 2 (see below)

The next Stage Two course will will be held at the Cheltenham Civil Service CC on June 9, 2019 from 9.30am-5.30pm. This course is designed to give you further knowledge and skills to enable you to become a member of a league panel. All candidates need to be have attended the Stage One course. It will complement that course by looking beyond the basic laws, building on field craft, match management techniques and introducing the concept of working as a team and with a colleague.

The course costs £20 or you can pay £30 to attend both the Level 1 and Level 2 (see below)
