On a VERY cold and damp evening the Hawkswood Royals recorded an impressive 46 run victory in their T16 hardball league match against Quedgeley and Hardwicke.
Captain Charlotte lost the toss but pleasingly was put into bat - her preferred choice!
She then took the responsibility of opening the innings with Elodie.
After a cautious start seeing off some impressive accurate bowling the girls started to attack Q+H's first change bowlers. Elodie retired on 28 not out whilst Charlotte W fell to a peach of a ball from County teammate and leg spinner Charlotte M.
That brought Cerys and Georgina to the crease. The girls continued to attack and accelerate as they moved towards the final overs of the innings. Cerys retired on 25 not out from just 24 balls, a strike rate of 104.17 including 3 four's, Georgina finished on 11 not out.
Georgina was joined for the last few balls of the innings by Ada who continued the charge with a very aggressive innings with some great footwork and movement.
Hawkswood finished their innings 104-1 from just 16 overs.
The pressure was on Q+H for their innings and soon told when both their openers were dismissed for 0! Cery opened the bowling with some fast bouncy bowling! A cross seem delivery found the splice of the Q+H batters bat and Charlotte (wicketkeeping) took a smart catch down the leg side. Ellie backed up Cerys's great first over by bowling Q+H's other opener. After just two overs Q+H were 2-2 and already on the back foot...
After a tight, dangerous spell from our opening bowlers first change bowlers Georgina and Evie kept the pressure on. Georgina finishing with the best bowling figures of the game - 2 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wickets (all bowled!) for just 4 runs. Nearing the halfway point of their innings Q+H were 15-5 and the match was as good as won.
All the girls got to bowl and continued to keep things tight even in the face of a small Q+H fightback. Ada, Ava, Bella and Elodie all bowled nicely. Bella, who fielded brilliantly on the night, returning her two overs for just seven runs. With the required total well out of sight the innings finished with a flourish as Ava bowled the final over and took two wickets!
One a smart catch at mid off from Ada and one bowled.
The Q+H innings ended with them 57-7, meaning Hawkswood has won by 46 runs.
After 3 games of the league season the girls are in top spot in the table.
Well done girls! An impressive team performance where everyone contributed.
You are looking like quite a formidable side!
