3rd XI v Stinchcombe Stragglers 2nd XI
On a wet and gloomy day Stinchcombe ground staff did an amazing job of protecting the wicket and clearing the outfield of any damp spots. So to the toss, 2 things were decided 1: Hawksbury would bat first (again!) and 2: reduced the match to 30 overs. A decision that would prove to be inspired! Hawksbury got off to a good start with another steady opening partnership of 81 before Lee Hodson returned one back to the bowler for 52. At drinks (15 overs) Hawksbury were 83-1, with plenty of batting to come Hawksbury could afford to push towards max batting points (200). With Dave Gorman (41) and Tony Green (24) the foundations were set. With a quick fire 31 from Lewis Green and some good running between the wickets from Alex Windmill and Tom Hibbitt, Hawksbury finished on 185-5. With the weather holding but getting blustery Hawksbury took to the field. Charlie Johnson (1-14) made a blistering start taking a wicket in the first over. Stinchcombe struggled for runs and never got on top of the run rate required. First change Ross Burnell bowled through with a tidy 2-11. With the clouds darkening Tom Hibbitt finished 1-22 in a lively spell and Dan Jenkins took 2-12 in a miserly 5 overs. With the 30 overs over and Stinchcombe on 95-6, Hawkesbury won by 90 runs. As the team walked off celebrating another good win the heavens opened, great decision by the captains to reduce the game!
